Development of academic science in Transcarpathia started from the creation of Department of Photonuclear Processes of the Institute of Nuclear Research of Academy of Sciences of Ukrainian SSR (Kyiv, 1969). The next step was the opening of the Department of Theory of Hadrons of the Institute of Theoretical Physics of Academy of Sciences of Ukrainian SSR (Kyiv, 1970). These two academic units laid the foundation for further development of academic science in our region. In 1982 the Uzhhorod Department of the Institute of Nuclear Research was founded, and since September 1992 it developed into the first independent academic institution in Transcarpathia – Institute of Electron Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
